Tours for student groups of 10 or more participants, including schools, pre-school programs, afterschool programs,  home school groups and youth groups, are available for:

DOCENT-GUIDED TOURS (Pre-K–1st GRADE)
(60-student maximum per tour time)
  

Docent-guided tours invite young visitors to explore ideas in an exhibition through works of art and hands-on activities. Led by Frist Center teachers and docents (specially trained volunteers), these tours include an art-making activity in the Art Studios or Martin ArtQuest. Pre-K–1st Grade Docent-guided tours are offered Monday through Friday at 9:45 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.

                                     
 

 
 
DOCENT-GUIDED TOURS (2nd–12th GRADE)
(60-student maximum per tour time) 
50-minute tour
Docent-guided tours focus on works of art that illustrate a unifying idea of the exhibition. Led by Frist Center docents (specially trained volunteers), these tours are inquiry-based and encourage a high level of student participation. Working in small groups*, students examine works of art and engage in gallery discussion.* Tours are offered Monday through Friday at 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. A visit to the Art Studios and/or Martin ArtQuest may be scheduled in combination with this tour.
 
*Prior to the visit, teachers are asked to divide their students into small groups of 16 or less. Your confirmation letter will indicate the number of small groups required for your tour. Upon the students' arrival, a docent will be assigned to each small group.
 
 
 
 


SELF-GUIDED EXHIBITION TOURS (2nd–12th GRADE)
(60-student maximum per tour time)
50-minute tour
Teachers may schedule an independently led tour of the exhibition(s) for their students, Monday through Saturday, between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Gallery guides and other printed materials are available to students to enhance their understanding of the exhibitions.  A visit to Martin ArtQuest may be scheduled in combination with the self-guided tour.

 

SELF-GUIDED ARTQUEST VISIT (Pre-K–12th GRADE)
(40-student maximum per tour time)
50-minute hands-on experience
Martin ArtQuest is an interactive education gallery where visitors of all ages discover exciting ways to learn about and create art. Hands-on stations relate art concepts to the exhibitions and everyday life. Facilitated by Frist Center staff and volunteers, a visit to Martin ArtQuest may be scheduled independently or in combination with docent-guided and self-guided tours Monday through Saturday between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

30-minute tour and 30-minute activity
